Switching to FaithNudge: A Painless Migration Guide

Switching church management systems sounds daunting. You've got years of member data, giving records, group structures, and communication history. The thought of starting over is enough to keep most churches stuck with software they've outgrown.

The good news: migrating to FaithNudge is designed to be straightforward. Here's a step-by-step guide to making the switch without losing your data or your sanity.

Before You Start

Before migrating, take stock of what you have:

  • Member records: Names, contact info, family relationships, custom fields
  • Giving history: Donation records, recurring gifts, fund designations
  • Groups: Small groups, ministries, teams, and their member rosters
  • Communication history: Email templates, contact lists
  • Events: Upcoming and past events, registrations

Most ChMS platforms allow you to export this data as CSV files. Check your current platform's export options before proceeding.

Step 1: Export Your Data

From your current ChMS, export the following:

  1. People/Members: Export all member records as a CSV. Include as many fields as possible - name, email, phone, address, birthday, membership date, etc.
  2. Giving records: Export donation history including dates, amounts, fund names, and donor information.
  3. Groups: Export group rosters with member assignments and leader designations.

Most platforms (Planning Center, Breeze, Church Community Builder, Shelby, etc.) offer CSV or Excel exports from their settings or reports sections.

Step 2: Create Your FaithNudge Account

Sign up at FaithNudge (it's free) and complete the basic setup:

  • Enter your church name, address, and details
  • Invite your key team members
  • Set up your Stripe account for online giving (if applicable)

Step 3: Import Your Members

Navigate to People in the FaithNudge dashboard and use the Import feature:

  1. Upload your CSV file
  2. Map the columns from your file to FaithNudge fields (name, email, phone, etc.)
  3. Review the preview to make sure data looks correct
  4. Run the import

FaithNudge handles duplicates intelligently - if a member already exists (matched by email or phone), their record will be updated rather than duplicated.

Step 4: Set Up Your Groups

Create your groups and ministries in FaithNudge:

  1. Go to Groups and create each group with its name, type, and description
  2. Add members to groups - you can search and add multiple members at once
  3. Assign group leaders

If you have many groups, you can import group memberships via CSV as well.

Step 5: Configure Online Giving

If you're using FaithNudge's giving features:

  1. Complete the Stripe Express onboarding
  2. Create your giving funds (General, Missions, Building Fund, etc.)
  3. Customize your giving page
  4. Communicate the change to your congregation with clear instructions

Important: Historical giving data from your previous platform should be retained in that system for tax purposes. Going forward, new donations will be tracked in FaithNudge.

Step 6: Launch the Mobile App

Share the FaithNudge mobile app with your congregation:

  1. Announce the new app from the pulpit and in your bulletin
  2. Send an email with download links for iOS and Android
  3. Help members sign in and connect to your church
  4. Upload your first sermon to start generating Nudges

Step 7: Build Your Website (Optional)

If you want to use FaithNudge's website builder:

  1. Go to Website in the dashboard
  2. Build your site using the drag-and-drop editor
  3. Connect your custom domain
  4. Redirect your old website to your new FaithNudge site

Timeline

For most churches, the entire migration can be completed in a single afternoon:

Export data from old system15-30 minutes
Create FaithNudge account2 minutes

Running Both Systems

Many churches choose to run FaithNudge alongside their current platform for 2-4 weeks before fully switching. This lets you:

  • Verify all data imported correctly
  • Train staff on the new system
  • Gradually move workflows over
  • Keep a safety net until you're confident
